The Cauliflower of Destiny, the feature‑length directing debut of Anna Urbańczyk, will have its world premiere at the 51st Gdynia Polish Film Festival. The film has been selected for the Perspectives Competition, a section dedicated to new voices in Polish cinema — works that are formally and thematically bold, chart new directions, and refuse to follow well‑worn paths. This year’s edition of the Festival will take place from 21 to 26 September 2026.
Stifled Ania, trapped in a grimy grocery store, is suffocating under her mother’s toxic control. Salvation arrives via a discarded cauliflower that, unsettlingly, starts talking. At first a witty mentor, the vegetable’s advice soon sours into a grotesque push for revenge. As her rebellion escalates from petty pranks to radical acts, Ania must decide: is this edible oracle her savior or a deranged voice of self destruction? A darkly comic journey where freedom tastes like rot.

The role of Ania is played by Maja Michnacka, marking her first leading performance in a feature film. She is joined by Gabriela Muskała, Sebastian Stankiewicz, Mikołaj Kubacki, Pola Król, and Grzegorz Przybył. The voice of the titular cauliflower is provided by one of Poland’s most popular actors, Adam Woronowicz.

The screenplay was written by fellow debutant Emil Miszkowicz‑Adamowicz. Cinematography is by Grzegorz Hartfiel; production design by Aleksandra Komarzaniec‑Piss; costumes by Hanka Podraza; music composed by Magdalena Sowul; and editing by Olga Bejm. The Cauliflower of Destiny is produced by Wiktor Piątkowski (Bahama Films), with Sławomir Łonisk serving as creative producer. The film was co‑financed by the Polish Film Institute. International sales and festival promotion are handled by IKH Pictures Promotion.
