The late 1930s, the Polish Highlands. Jędrek Zawrat, a talented mountaineer and descendant of a prominent family of highlanders, likes living on the edge. The beautiful Bronka Skorus is the woman he wants to marry, but by the family’s decision she is given away to the elder of the Zawrat brothers, the staid and serious Maciek. Proud Jędrek leaves his native region behind to look for ways to forget it all among the bohemians of Krakow. War forces the brothers to make the most difficult of choices. They rise on opposite sides of a conflict that will determine not only their personal fate but also the future of the whole region.

DIRECTOR'S BIO

MARCIN KOSZAŁKA is a cinematographer, director of documentary and feature films which he writes and edits himself. Twice he won the Best Cinematography award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, in 2004 and 2009, and the Bronze Frog at the 2009 International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography Plus Camerimage in Łódź. He was nominated for the Eagles three times. His film, The Red Spider, received the Special Award of the Jury at the 2016 polish Film Festival in Gdynia and awards including the 2015 Arras Film Festival, 2015 Cairo International Film Critics Week, 2016 goEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden, together with nominations for the Polish Filmmakers Association award and the 2016 Eagle award. Koszałka is a member of the Polish Film Academy and the European Film Academy.
