First International Award for "Home Sweet Home"
Wojtek Smarzowski received the Grand Prize for his latest film Home Sweet Home at the recently concluded Polish Film Festival Prague (formerly 3Kino Praha) on November 15. This marks the first international award for the film, which premiered at this year’s Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and was released in Polish cinemas on November 7, achieving one of the strongest opening results of the year. The jury — composed of cinematographer and FAMU graduate Jan Baset Střítežský, film critic, journalist, and festival curator Josef Vomáčka, and director, screenwriter, and cinematographer Maria Zbąska (winner of the festival’s Grand Prize in 2024 for It's Not My Film) — justified their decision by stating that “the film impressed with its intensity, precision, and uncompromising auteur style.”
When Gośka meets Grzesiek on the Internet, she is sure that she’s finally found her Mr. Right. Grzesiek is crazy about her, showers her with flowers and proposes in Venice. This must be love, right? The perfect picture starts showing some cracks, though. For Gośka their home soon becomes the most dangerous of places. A film about the limits of love that you will not be able to forget.
Wojtek Smarzowski also wrote the screenplay for the film. Cinematography was handled by Paweł Tybora, editing by Krzysztof Komander, and the music was composed by Mikołaj Trzaska. The lead roles were played by Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt. The film was produced by Wojciech Gostomczyk and Janusz Hetman (Lucky Bob), and co-financed by the Polish Film Institute. International sales and festival promotion are managed by IKH Pictures Promotion.
